Everyone wants to be happy and those who deny this very basic truth are liars. If you want to be happy here’s what you should do.
Appreciate your life.
One of the best gifts you can ever receive is the gift of contentment. Once you are content with your life happiness follows suit. If along the way someone pricks your happy bubble don’t wallow in misery because the more you dig your nose in your problems the more miserable you become. And happiness will inevitably evade you. An unhappy person can still find contentment even at the midst of problems just by straightening up his perspective. Think of all the good things that are happening in your life. If you are married be thankful that you have a husband and a child who love you and who are looking after you. If you have a job but you’re tired be grateful that you have a stable source of income. If you have a house and a car be content that you are living a comfortable life. Happiness isn’t just about reaching dreams; happiness is all around you if you learn to pay attention.
Understand that everyone has his/her fair share of bad days.
A bad day doesn’t equate to a bad life. Don’t let a bad day ruin what you’ve worked hard for. If you got a cold, give yourself a break from work. Don’t push it because if you force yourself you’re risking getting a poor performance evaluation and we all know what happens next. If a boyfriend dumped you, give yourself time to grieve but don’t grow resentful or bitter. Look at it as a blessing in disguise that maybe someone out there is waiting for you. No matter what you do or how careful you are there will always be bad days and there will always be days that aren’t in our favor. If you want to be happy and live a truly happy life, accept the bad days with open arms and move on. Moving on is one of the secrets to a happy life. Move on, accept your failures, accept the bad days and strive hard to do better the next time around.
Find time to do what makes you happy.
Yes, we’re busy and we have priorities but if you concentrate on work and use up all of your time and invest it all on work you will never be happy. Give yourself a break and allocate a day or two to just simply do what you want to do even if it means doing nothing at all. Don’t go living your life in a to-do list, throw it out on your days off and just bask in the beauty of doing nothing. Lie under the sheets for all you care and watch your favorite reruns in your pajamas even past sundown. One way of truly enjoying life is to do what you want and forget about your priorities even for just a while. A quick reboot is what we need sometimes when life gets hard. This reboot can bring back our happy bubble.
Life is hard but you have to be wise in dealing with it otherwise it will steal your happiness from you.
